Disaster Preparedness Natural disasters are part of life here in Texas. In fact, Texas leads the country in both frequency and cost of billion dollar weather and climate disaster events with 171 incidents between 1980-2024 (NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information). While we can't always predict when and where these disasters will strike, we can help blunt their impacts through family, farm, and community preparedness. Linked below, you can find preparedness resources from the Center for Food Security and Public Health for each of the most common types of Texas natural disaster. Hurricane resources from the the USDA Southeast Climate Hub are tailored for Florida producers but are broadly applicable to Texas as well. Texas A&M Agrilife's Disaster Assessment and Recovery unit is another great source for Texas specific information. |
